Brooklyn Defender Services provides free legal defense to immigrants in removal proceedings, including unaccompanied children.
They represent clients in immigration court, file applications for relief such as asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, visas, green cards, DACA and TPS, and give advice on how criminal or family cases affect immigration status.
They also represent detained immigrants through the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project and provide social work and support services.
For unaccompanied children, they handle SIJS cases in family court, represent them in immigration court, offer know-your-rights education, and advocate around policies affecting children in federal custody.
They also help connect children to needed social and community supports while their cases move forward.
